St. Columba Catholic Church

We initially built the St. Columba website in 2014, converting the static html site to WordPress and utilizing a page builder. The website held up well, however staff at St. Columba found challenges when using the old page builder.

With the advent of WordPress’ full-site editing, we converted the website leveraging the use of block themes. This allowed the staff to edit the website with more freedom, giving them a more visual experience of knowing what they see on the back-end closely reflect the user-end.

Design

Upon visiting both open and secluded, prayerful areas of the church, What stood out the most were the colorful stained glass windows that changed the way a room was lit based on the time of day. The colors on the site were chosen from parts of the stained glass and interior of the church.

Graphic elements were inspired by the stained glass windows and are used throughout the site.

Function

The website was designed to be responsive with the most accessed items being available by a click of a button/

The navigation was designed to be more clear with instant news and event items to engage the user.

Back-End

A plugin was developed to allow the website administrator to enter their parish information in one place for it to be used throughout the site. The information can be placed in the content area by custom blocks that work with the new full site editor. This reduces the need to re-enter updated information on several pages throughout the site.
